About Me & The Company
Hi, I'm John Nisbet DipWCF

I started my Farriery career in Scotland in 1992
when I began a 4 year 2 month apprenticeship with Master
Farrier Ruaraidh Robb AWCF. I was lucky enough to be
trained by Ruaraidh who as an AWCF (Associate of the Worshipful
Company of Farriers) carried out a great deal of 'corrective
Farriery'. It was with this influence that I also became
interested in this aspect of the Farriery profession. Upon
attaining the DipWCF (Diploma of the Worshipful Company of
Farriers) examination in 1996 and gaining my place on the Register
of Farriers I set up my own business. From 1996 until December
2002 I ran a very successful professional Farriery service from my
home town of Eyemouth in the Scottish Borders. In January 2003 I
relocated to Devon for a new challenge. Now, 2009 and I have
built up another successful professional Farriery service covering a
wide area of Devon and south Somerset.

the area covered.)
I provide a professional Farriery service to a wide
variety of clients, shoeing horses from all aspects of
Equestrianism. It is important as a Farrier to adapt the style
of shoeing for each individual horse according to the work that is
required of it by the rider. Upon assessing each horse it is
also imperative that each limb be assessed and shod as an individual
entity. In short, the way in which one fore foot is shod is
not necessarily how you would shoe the other. This could be
because of many reasons, such as a distorted hoof capsule or a limb
injury. With today's high standards in Farriery and the ever
evolving practice of Veterinary science a lot of my work is aided by
working closely with Vets. This can range from a combined
assessment of a clients horse to your Vet sending or emailing
appropriate x-rays of a horses foot to me, enabling me to shoe the
foot 'to the x-rays'. With the aid of digital x-rays and with
having a laptop computer with me in the van I can view x-rays
clearly whilst carrying out work at a clients stables. Gone
are the days of holding x-ray film up to the sunlight to try and get
a look!
As not all horses need 'corrective Farriery' a great
deal of my time is spent shoeing with normal, standard steel shoes.
This still requires the same assessment prior to shoeing as with any
corrective shoeing, but in treating all clients horses with the same
high standards, prevention of may problems can be achieved.
Through simple observation I aim to shoe your horse in a way that
prevents any avoidable lameness and you as the client and owner from
any unnecessary expense.
My Mission
To achieve and maintain soundness in all clients
horses. To provide an unrivalled professional Farriery Service
to all clients and to keep up with the latest in modern Farriery
techniques.
