With the expansion of our team in the South West we are now reintroducing our professional Farriery service to the Scottish Borders & North Northumberland. Initially we will be in the area every 2 to 3 weeks (depending on demand). As we still have strong ties in the area and having previously had an established professional Farriery business with over 300 clients for a number of years we estimate a full service to be achieved within a few months. For more information on the high standard of professional Farriery service and care you can expect from us please have a look at all of our website. If you have any further questions then please email us or give our office a call on 07808 714 243 where Ashley will be happy to answer any questions and/or take your booking. Alternatively you can call John direct on 07802 444 152 (please remember that John may be under a horse or in a consultation with a client or Veterinary Surgeon and may not always be able to answer his phone, but please do leave a message)

It is with great pleasure we announce that our 4th year apprentice Ollie has attained his DipWCF status after passing an examination as set by the Worshipful Company of Farriers (WCF) Ollie will now be added to part 1 of the register of Farriers held by the Farriers Registration Council (FRC). He passed his last part of the DipWCF examination by completing the practical exam with no less than a 'B'. As most of you will know Rosalyn has now begun her Farriery Apprenticeship with us. Most of you will already have met Rosalyn as she has been a valuable member of the team since September 2010 and was introduced in our December 2010 Newsletter (which is still available to download). As an official Apprentice Rosalyn is now allowed to carry out 'Farriery' under the direct supervision of company owner John Nisbet DipWCF as he is an Approved Training Farrier. Rosalyn has taken to the first of her roles as an apprentice, which is removing the worn, old shoes from the horses very well. She will also be learning over the next few weeks how to rasp feet as part of the 'finishing off' process. 'Finishing off' is the when the foot is taken forward, usually being placed on a foot stand and the excess foot growth at the toe is dressed or 'rasped' back prior to the nails being folded over or 'clenched up'. We would like to wish Rosalyn the best of luck with her Apprenticeship and hope you as our clients will enjoy watching her progress through the forthcoming years into a highly trained and skilled Farrier in her own right.

From January 4th 2011 HMRC will be increasing the VAT to 20%. We have not raised our prices for the last 2 years due to the current financial climate, absorbing all of the price increases by our suppliers over this period. Unfortunately we can no longer sustain these increases in running costs and will therefore have to increase our charges. We have decided to do this now in conjunction with the VAT increase to save additional costs that would be incurred by doing it at a separate time. The current downloadable price list brochure contains our new 2011 prices.

For the 6th consecutive year I will be duty Farrier at the fantastically set Nutwell Court Horse Trials. As a local event I always like to take the opportunity to show my support by sponsoring a fence. Keep a lookout for the banner on the course and if your about in the lorry park, feel free to stop by for a chat.
Wednesday 29th April saw me host my first Farriery event with a clinic for Farriers, Farriery Apprentices and Vets. The clinic, which was in association with Mustad Hoof Care started with registration then a small talk on Farriery CPD and its benefits given by Mr Reg Howe, who, until recently headed the Farriery CPD steering committee. This was then followed by a presentation given by Mustad clinician and Farrier Chris Powell F.W.C.F, who also lectures at the Warwick school of Farriery. The clinic was attended by some 12 local Farriers, 3 Apprentices and 1 Vet. After a break for a BBQ Lunch the afternoon continued with a shoeing demonstration which was also given by Chris. All in all it was a good day enjoyed by all.

Saturday 17th January and a 430am start to drive the 230 miles to Arthur Cottams in Chesterfield (a major Horse shoe manufacturer) for their 2009 winter seminar. The gates opened at 830am and the seminar kicked of at 10am with one of 2 talks given throughout the day by Gary Darlow AFCL on reducing shoe loss on hunters. His first talk covered the fore feet and the second the hind feet. Based on his own experiences over the last 30 years of shoeing hunters his talk was accompanied by slides showing how he fitted shoes to his hunting horses. Both talks were followed by a question and answer sessions which were open to the floor consisting of some 200 Farriers. Gary's talks were followed by a talk from Steve Lloyd RSS, Senior Tutor at Hereford School of Farriery. His talk covered changes in Farriery over the last 30 years and the economic climate's possible effects on the Farriery industry. Throughout the day there was Tea, coffee and a barbequed food put on by Arthur Cottams and all the staff they had in working on a Saturday to make the day possible. The final part of the day was a hunter shoeing demonstration given by Gary Darlow AFCL. Gary hand made all of the shoes as he went talking us through the demo. Afterwards we were all invited to have a look at his finished job. In all it was a good day and worth the 7 hours driving!

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy new year and hope you all have a good 2009. Lets hope for a bit better weather this year!!
As from 1st December 2008 the Government dropped the rate of VAT to 15%. As the average price of my services is of low monetary value the change on most items and services would be pennies. As this is the case not every item and/or service provided has been reduced. However, I have lowered the cost of a standard set of shoes by £1 to £64. This also brings a refit to £59. The site has been updated today with the new prices. Copies of paper versions of the price list are available on request. If you would like a copy of the price list brochure sent to you then please email info@correctivefarrier.com giving your full name and address, including post code. Alternatively, if you are an existing client then you can get one from the van on my next visit.
As from 1st July 2008 prices will unfortunately have to rise due to the increasing costs of running the business. The prices of steel, nails and delivery costs have spiralled over the last 6 months to a point where I can no longer swallow the increase myself. This is however the first price increase in 12 months.
With a great number of entries the Silverton Hunt branch of the Pony Club ran it's One Day Event (ODE) at Pontispool, Taunton, Somerset.
As a local Event and being for my local Pony Club, of which my daughter is a member sponsoring a jump was a must!

Although the weather was extremely warm it was a quite overcast and there was a few small drizzles throughout the day. This didn't stop any competitors from enjoying the good going and certainly didn't make the cross country course deteriorate although studs on the wet grass were a must.
As well as sponsoring jump number 3 (pictured above) I was also attending the ODE as duty Farrier. As far as this went I enjoyed a nice quiet day!
Pay the Gallery a visit to see some photos of shoes and on-going cases I'm working on.
More photos will be added soon so keep a look out!
