laminitis affecting all 4 feet

The horse in this case had no lameness or laminitis prior to the client putting the horse out on loan.  When the horse returned to the client/owner it was obvious he had suffered from Laminitis when he had been out on loan.  Unfortunately I never took any photos of his feet on his return.  The first of the photos taken were after two shoeings.  The feet still look bad but are a vast improvement to how they were on his return.  I had been taking as much toe of per shoeing as I dared, without causing any further discomfort.  As he was still showing signs of lameness the client had x-rays taken so we could see exactly what was going on inside the foot.  With discussions between the client, her Vet and myself, we decided on the course of action to be taken.

The three main aims were;

  1. Correct the hoof pastern axis
  2. Re-alignment of the pedal bone
  3. Provide support to the foot and cushioning to the pedal bone with Equi-Build

The following series of x-rays shows the changes shoeing has made between x-rays.  Although there are significant changes there is still a great deal of work to do.

The first x-ray for each foot are the same X-rays as shown above.

The x-rays below of the Fore feet were taken on (from Left to right) 12-06-07, 29-09-07 and 24-01-08

As this is an ongoing case I plan to take more pictures in the future.

Lateral Extensions

The pictures below show a pair of Lateral Extensions.  They have been fabricated from a pair of ready made shoes by welding a length of 3/8" round bar to the outside of the shoe.
